Songs of the people and the past

Date: Saturday 5th of April 2025 at 8pm
Location: Protestant Church of Brussels-Museum, rue du Musée 2, 1000 Brussels

Vocal Ensemble De Corde presents an atmospheric programme of music from the Spanish Renaissance. We will introduce you to the rich sounds of composers such as Nicolas Gombert, Juan Vásquez, Francisco Guerrero and Mateo Flecha el Viejo. From subdued laments of love to lively, playful melodies – this music touches on the emotions and life of a bygone era. Polyphonic fabrics, melodic lines and refined harmonies take you on a journey through the musical traditions of the 16th century. Be surprised by the beauty and versatility of this timeless music.

Attic Voices offers a light-hearted exploration of choral works inspired by popular songs from romance languages. The folk music of the past and present has long been taken up by composers in their choral works: from Cipriano de Rore to Francis Poulenc, through Fernando Lopes-Graça, Attic Voices takes you back in time to the very heart of rural villages’ and people’s daily lives. A repertoire full of sunshine and stories to tell.
